The leading global financial services company Morgan Stanley announced on Thursday that its branch in Baltimore is celebrating the graduates of its second-annual STEM Robotics Program.
The STEM Robotics Program is an after-school workshop 12-week program where employee volunteers from the financial company teach students the basics of MakeCode using Circuit Playground processors, culminating in the students building robots that run on the code they’ve written, according to the report.
The financial services company said that this year’s program ushered in a new level two track, which allowed the graduates from last year’s level one program to be invited back to learn Python, write Python code for their robots, and control the robots using an app on a smartphone or tablet.
Madeline Hutchinson, Global Head of Technology Philanthropy at Morgan Stanley said “Our STEM Robotics Program introduces students to coding and robotics under the mentorship of Morgan Stanley technologists from diverse STEM backgrounds. Building a robot may seem very different from building technology solutions for a global investment bank, but the fundamentals are the same.”

The Graduation Ceremony
According to Morgan Stanley, the ceremony was hosted at their Thames Street Wharf office in Harbor Point, and middle school students from The Crossroads School exhibited the robots they built during the 12-week program. The family members, school faculty, and Morgan Stanley employee volunteers attended the graduation to celebrate the students’ accomplishments.
